FS Consultant

Location: Newcastle or Leeds
Salary: £50k plus attractive benefits package

This is an excellent opportunity to become a trusted advisor within a Big 4 firm; you will have the chance to build long-term relationships with exceptional clients and work closely with Partners, Directors and Associate Directors across the national FS practice. The role will allow you to develop and learn how to build such relationships whilst enhancing your own personal portfolio and networks.

This firm is currently investing heavily in the regional hub of their FS tax practice as they are seeing strong market demand and need additional resource to maximise on the opportunity to grow the practice further. This role would be based at either Leeds or Newcastle, which are the key strategic locations for growth plans and you would be working closely, not only with the partners and directors who lead the hub but also with other members of the national team.

The team you will be joining consists of a large number of well established tax specialists who work with a broad range of financial services businesses, from FTSE and international listed companies to mutual businesses and new start-ups. They work closely with Financial Advisory, Consulting and Regulatory specialists together with teams across Europe and globally. This enables them to provide their clients with comprehensive compliance and advisory services. They ensure clients meet all reporting, filing and regulatory obligations with the relevant authorities, and support their business development with advisory and structuring tax services.

This is an exciting opportunity. The role will be varied and could range from complex tax compliance and tax audits of listed businesses to tax compliance and cross-service line advisory work for developing businesses and start-ups. You will also have the opportunity to advise UK and international clients on transactional issues. The different projects that you will be managing will ensure that you are challenged on a daily basis. You will also get to work with a great team who are driven and ambitious, and meet and interact with a number of prestigious client organisations.

• Ownership and development of existing UK and international client relationships and cultivation of new relationships;
• Support senior team members and subject matter specialists in communication, marketing and delivery of a range of tax compliance and reporting, tax audit and advisory services to financial services clients, in addition to developing the technical and operational skill set of junior team members. Work would include:
• Delivery of UK corporation tax compliance and reporting services to a varied portfolio of clients;
• Liaison with our offshore and nearshore teams to ensure quality and efficiency;
• Acting as tax specialist on audits, including reviewing client tax accounting and managing the input of other specialists (including transfer pricing, R&D, transactions, debt advisory) to address risks and reach conclusions around uncertain tax positions;
• Ad hoc advisory projects;
• Proactively managing client and statutory deadlines, billing requirements and delegating effectively to your team.
• Active involvement in cross service line FS community events;
• Input into market facing events on both an account and wider team basis.

• Experience of working in practice in a similar function. A good understanding of the financial services sector is desirable but not essential;
• ICAEW or CTA qualifications;
• Experience in preparing or reviewing UK Corporation Tax computations and tax accounting disclosures;
• Ability to integrate and work effectively within high performing teams;
• Delegation and leadership skills, and an ability to be clear and concise with regards to instructing more junior teams around them;
• High quality business writing and effective communication skills;
• The ability to work closely with clients, applying practical and commercial concepts to technical work;
• Ability to effectively present to clients and internal teams;
• Individual needs to be organised and self-motivated.

As a Consultant you will use your commercial awareness and professional expertise, along with leveraging the skills and expertise of others, to deliver the best possible experience and outcomes for clients. You might own or manage key elements of a client relationship and, with an appropriate level of support, will be expected to proactively identify innovative solutions for your clients and pursue new business development opportunities by utilising your networks and market knowledge. You will be a confident team player and enjoy sharing your knowledge and expertise with others, as well as continuing to build your own technical expertise or specialism.
