Mike LongmanPartner and Director Roles
Mike, our Managing Director, specialises in recruiting Partners and Directors and, since founding the business in 2003, he has recruited numerous candidates for clients from Big 4 to local firms. He is both an F.C.A. and a C.T.A , tax trained in a Big 4 firm, and was formerly an equity partner and Head of Tax in the Manchester office of a Group A accountancy firm. Mike had over 15 years experience of building tax teams and of recruiting tax specialists as an employer. He was Chair of the Manchester branch of the CIOT for three years and continues to be actively involved with the branch. Mike's experience as a tax partner gives him a unique understanding of high level tax recruitment from both candidates' and clients' perspectives. In his spare time Mike is a keen sports fan and an infrequent and wildly inconsistent golfer. His golfing exploits range from the high point of a hole in one on the 6th at Alderley Edge Golf Club to the low of spoiling his round on the Old Course at St Andrews by taking 7 shots to get out of a pot bunker!
Ian RileyPractice roles – North West
Ian specialises in recruiting tax professionals into practice roles across the North West of England at Manager level and below. Ian is a fully qualified ACA and, having formerly worked at a Big 4 firm in Manchester as an M&A Tax Manager, he has a strong understanding of the technical aspects of tax work and is well placed to give genuine career advice and insight to candidates looking to move forward with their careers. Ian prides himself on offering a highly professional, attentive service to both candidates and clients alike and is careful to match the right candidates to the right roles, fully understanding the needs of both parties. Ian has a friendly, approachable nature and many of his candidates choose Longman Tax Recruitment to represent them exclusively, such is the strength of the candidate relationship he builds. Outside of work Ian has a keen interest in sport, particularly football and golf and has not yet given up on his dream of one day playing in the British Open. Ian has also recently become a bit of a real ale enthusiast and is currently working on a formula for the first prize winning ale to be produced by the Longman Tax Recruitment Real Ale Company!
Alison RiordanIn House & Indirect Tax Roles
Alison, who joined Longman Tax Recruitment in March 2013, is a tax recruitment specialist. Her main areas of focus are in-house tax teams and the Indirect Taxes market; she deals with candidates from Tax Assistants to Senior Managers and Head of Tax and recruits for clients right across the North of England. Alison , who is an Associate Director of the company, has worked in recruitment for fifteen years, and prior to joining us had ten years’ tax recruitment experience working in the Manchester office of a large national agency. She is a highly experienced recruiter and has indepth knowledge of the Northern tax market. Alison prides herself on working collaboratively with both candidate and clients alike to ensure that successful and lasting partnerships are made and this is reflected in the glowing testimonials she regularly receives from both candidates and clients. Much of Alison’s leisure time is spent with her family (she has two young daughters) and socialising with friends.
SallyYorkshire and the North East – practice and in-house roles
Sally joined Longman Tax Recruitment in April 2018 to focus solely on practice and industry tax recruitment for Yorkshire and the North East. Following a successful career recruiting qualified accountants for the SME market in Yorkshire, she is recognised by previous candidates and clients as an experienced recruiter with a pragmatic style, perceptive skill and personal touch. Sally sets herself high standards of service delivery ensuring mutually beneficial long term partnerships are achieved above all else. She cares about candidates as individuals helping them to realise their career aspirations and for clients she goes the extra mile in understanding the cultural needs of a business in addition to the technical demands of the job. In her spare time, Sally is a practising yogi ascribing to the view that a balanced body and mind is the secret to a happy life. An admirer of beautiful objects and places; she loves art, the natural world and visiting English castles.
Joanna Longman is a founding Director of the company. She was a VAT specialist and was formerly Regional Head of VAT at one of the Big 4 firms before becoming VAT Director of a large local practice in the North West. Whilst she was in the profession she was an active member of the VAT Practitioners Group. Joanna currently focuses on marketing issues and business strategy. Joanna is also Chair of Governors at the local primary school and is a keen gardener.
